宇宙開発の需要とは、「必要性」からしか生まれない。経済的に儲かる事でしか、この産業を前に進めることは出来ない。宇宙開発が大きく前進するための必要な要素は何か？戦争と世界経済崩壊である。
言いたい事は、極めて単価の高い必要資源があれば、宇宙資源開発はペイするということである。そのための近道として、経済崩壊と金本位制の回帰が必要という、SF小説みたいなお話。
１．戦争回避のための宇宙開発
まずは、戦争を回避するための宇宙開発。将来人口爆発により、資源や土地が足りなくなった時、人類が地球外に移住するというオプションが1つの解としてある。しかしながら、もしも輸送するための宇宙船やロケットの値段が高ければ、人間を他の惑星や星に送り込むよりも、戦争をして他国から資源と土地を奪った方がコストパフォーマンスが良い。宇宙開発等行わず、奪う方が安いならそっちに流れる。つまり、世界大戦を防ぐためには、格安の宇宙船とロケットを開発する必要があるということだ。
２．世界経済崩壊による金本位制への回帰と宇宙開発
もしも、極めて単価の高い必要資源があれば、宇宙開発や宇宙資源開発は経済的ペイする。そのための近道として、経済崩壊と金本位制の回帰が触媒として必要と考える。
以下、物語基調に説明する。
202X年、米ドルが崩壊した。歴史上初の基軸通貨崩壊である。そして連鎖的に、世界経済は崩壊した。1971年のニクソンショック以降、これまで国の信用で刷ってきた通貨は全く信用されず、人々は夢から覚めたのである。先進国首脳会議による数週間の会合の末、導き出された結論は金本位制・金準備制への回帰であった。
一旦崩壊したが故に、単なる国の信用によって紙を刷っても信用されず、再び紙幣がゴールドと結びついたのだ。金本位制・金準備制の回帰により今の価格で、金は1g=5万円に高騰する。これは国家間のバランスを大きく変えた。金鉱山を持つ国の力が大きくなったのである。資源のない先進国達は、未知の領域に技術で踏み出す事になる。海洋開発と宇宙開発である。
世界経済崩壊、グローバルクラッシュからの金本位制・金準備制回帰は、資源のない日本の様な国を海水からの金採取・海底からの金採掘。そして、宇宙開発に向かわせた。今や1トンあたり500億円もの価値に高騰した金価格は、「宇宙資源開発」という高コスト産業を容認したのである。
小惑星の反射スペクトル解析により、遠方から金を多く含有する小惑星を特定、探査機を送り込んで、地球近傍軌道まで牽引、地球周辺にて小惑星から金の採掘を行うのである。これらは、「スペースゴールドラッシュ」と呼ばれた。この需要により宇宙開発技術は一気に進み、宇宙輸送技術が低価格化したのだ。
思えば、宇宙開発がアポロ計画以降、半世紀の間低迷した理由は、1971年のニクソンショックにより、米ドル紙幣とゴールドの価値が切り離された結果であった。Auという元素と通貨が分離し、国の信用で幾らでも刷れる時代の幕開けは、経済を拡大させ、世界中の富を増やし、グローバル経済を進展させた。しかし、もしもニクソンショックが存在せず、紙幣とゴールドが律儀にリンクしていたとしたら、グローバル経済発展の代わりに、人類は、地球の内外に存在するゴールドを求めて海洋開発、宇宙開発に乗り出したであろう。
